OLEAN, NY, MAY 18, 2026 /PRSearchEngine/ — Board-certified interventional cardiologist Christopher Mallavarapu, MD, FACC, SCAI has launched a new cardiology-focused blog series exploring cardiovascular disease, diagnostic testing and interventional cardiac procedures. The first article in the series, “Diagnosing Coronary Artery Disease with Cardiac Catheterization,” focuses on how physicians use cardiac catheterization and coronary angiography to identify blocked or narrowed coronary arteries.
The series is designed to help readers better understand common cardiovascular conditions, the diagnostic process behind heart disease evaluation, and the role interventional cardiology plays in modern cardiac care. Drawing from decades of clinical experience in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology, Christopher Mallavarapu aims to provide medically grounded explanations of procedures and conditions that patients often encounter after abnormal cardiac testing or the onset of symptoms such as chest pain and shortness of breath.
In the first installment, Dr. Mallavarapu explains how coronary artery disease is frequently identified through stress testing, echocardiography and electrocardiograms before cardiac catheterization is used to further evaluate blood flow inside the coronary arteries. The article also outlines how coronary angiography allows physicians to visualize arterial blockages and determine whether treatment such as angioplasty or coronary stent placement is necessary.
